NO brawling took place, but those who enjoyed Santiago Del Teide Lions’ “Knock-out Night” at Los Gigantes considered it a well-deserved win for the club.
Competitions at
the restaurant Tajanaste,
in La Caldera, were held at scrabble, pool, crib, and darts, while the sideshow featured Lions Club member Jon Thornley having his head and beard shaved off for sponsorship.
Jon’s clean shave raised 120 euros for charity ‒ and such was the atmosphere generated that a young Spanish chap, David Esposito, joined in the fun and raised another 60 euros for his natural look.
Sadly, time ran out before all the participants were able to tackle all the events and by 11pm, the finals had to be played.
Christine Haechler won the crib competition and was presented with a wok, donated by the ‘Mega-shop’ in Los Gigantes (Paul Ruane).
The scrabble was won by Kate Dowse, who captured two bottles of wine, while Gary Reynolds beat all-comers at the darts tournament to collect a further two bottles of booze.
The pool competition was won by Louis Henderson, whose reward was also a couple of bottles.
As usual at restaurant
Tajanaste, the refreshments were spot-on, and the Lions thank Glynis and Fred for their hospitality.
A grand total of 200 euros was raised for charity, but this was second to the whole nature of the evening, which was well spent meeting new people and having some light-hearted, competitive fun. More such events are in the offing.
