Beginning of the preparations for the celebration of the eruption of 1706 - the Municipality of Garachico, in collaboration with other institutions, commerce and neighbourhood associations, is ready for the commemoration of the volcanic eruption of 1706.
This event is held every five years in order to evoke the historic significance of the eruption of the volcano Trevejo, whose fierce torrent of rocks and volcanic matter, affected the historical, economic and artistic development of the municipality and buried the old port and its architectural treasures. The schedule, full of cultural and historical activities, will take place from 21 July to 1 August, and expects to gather more than 35,000 people. The main events will focus on the 1706 eruption's staging, traditionally known as "Fuegos del risco" and "Atalaya", using as a natural amphitheater the municipality where fireworks will be set off. This event coincides this year with the festivities of San Roque, and the City Council will ensure public safety during these dates which will host more than 50,000 visitors. |
