Tenerife hosts the International Conference 'Cities on Volcanoes' 2010

What is it like living on a volcano?  Do you know the various hazards associated with volcanic phenomenon?  How can we help reduce volcanic risk?  Are you aware of the many resources and opportunities posed by living in a volcanically active area?  Are we doing a good risk management associated with the volcanic phenomenon and harnessing the benefits of being able to live in a volcanically active?
These and other issues will be addressed during the International Conference "Cities on Volcanoes" (CoV6-Tenerife 2010), organized by the Cabildo de Tenerife via the Institute of Technology and Renewable Energies, to be held in Puerto de la Cruz between 31st May and 4th June.  It is the largest international conference on risk management in the past volcáncio and was held in Rome, Naples (Italy), Auckland (New Zealand), Hilo (Hawaii, USA. UU. Of America), Quito (Ecuador) and Shimabara (Japan).
The Canaries is a volcanically active region and densely populated which provides a volcanic framework, social and economic ideal to host the largest international conference on volcanic risk management.  In this sixth edition it is also an opportunity to address all the positive aspects involved living in a volcanically active area.
CoV6-Tenerife 2010 (http://www.citiesonvolcanoes6.com/) aims to be a meeting of geoscientists working on active volcanoes, authorities, experts in civil protection and emergencies, urban and regional planners, sociologists, economists, psychologists, educators, health specialists, entrepreneurs, engineers, media professionals and the general public who work and live in volcanically active areas to share their experiences and knowledge with the aim of contributing to better management of volcanic hazard and the goodness of live in a volcanically active area.
One of the objectives to be achieved within the framework of this international event is to promote the launch of the World Volcanic Cities (World Organization of Volcano Cities) whose founding members are the cities of Rome, Naples (Italy) , Auckland (New Zealand), Hilo (Hawaii, USA. UU. of America), Quito (Ecuador), Shimabara (Japan), and Tenerife.
