San Isidro crowds go wild for Lidl - 05.02.2010
LIDL, the German supermarket chain who have already been operating on the Spanish mainland for 15 years, opened their first two shops yesterday (Thursday) here in Tenerife.

Hundreds of people queued in San Isidro for their first taste of Lidl shopping, and the story was the same at the new Puerto de la Cruz store.

Eager shoppers arrived long before the 9.15am opening in San Isidro, and by 9.30 the security guards were still busy, controlling the crowds outside.

A total of over two million euros has been invested in the store, which has created more than 60 jobs and will be open 12 hours a day, Monday to Saturday, from 9.15am to 9.15pm.

There are over 100 parking spaces available and a shopping area of over 1,200 square metres.

Next Thursday sees the opening of two more stores in the South – Adeje on Monday (8th) and Las Chafiras three days later.

Lidl are giants of the cut-price supermarket world, with stores all over Europe and more than 500 in Spain alone.

They already have an average of 2.5 million shoppers on a weekly basis and they pledge that with the quality and price, customers should save around 2.500 euros on their shopping bill annually.
