Haiti Ambassador overwhelmed by response - 05.02.2010
A CHARITY Dinner to raise funds for the rebuilding of Haiti raised 100.000 dollars at the Hotel Botánico in Puerto de la Cruz.

The event attracted nearly 600 people, including a special guest, Haitian Ambassador Yollete Azor-Charles, who was delighted with the response.
.Also in attendance were Marcelo Risi, Secretary of the World Tourism Organisation; Paulino Rivero Baute, President of the Regional Government: José Manuel Soria, Vice-president of the Autonomous Region: Ricardo Melchior, President of Tenerife Cabildo, and Marcos Brito, the Mayor of Puerto de la Cruz.
Many other authorities, consuls and personalities of the Canarian society were represented as well.
The project, Share with Haiti, is organised by the Shelter and Share Association and supported by the Port Authority in Tenerife.
All proceeds of the Charity Dinner will be used for the reconstruction of housing and a school, which was built in December by this group and completely destroyed by the earthquake.
During her speech, Yollete Azor-Charles thanked the organisation and the Canarian population for their solidarity, love and support.
She said: “I will never forget these gestures. They unite our hearts and show that people are still human.”
Ricardo Melchior highlighted the solidarity shown by the Canarian society and how important it was to maintain this attribute – and not just at certain events.
Various singers and groups, committed to the cause, performed during the dinner. They included Anne Peters, the trio Musai, Subset Band, the quartet Capriccio and Sensación Latina.
