Arona improves waste - 22.01.2010
The level of waste produced by the municipality of Arona fell last year by 12,000 tonnes.

In 2008 Arona recorded 61,435 tons of rubbish, however, in 2009 only 48,495 tons were collected.

Councillor Antonio Sosa explained that this reduction of waste is firstly due to the economic crisis that we are going through, "has its effects on the waste generation".

And, secondly the councilor stressed the improvement in the levels of selective collection in the municipality, which rose from 4.87 percent in 2008 to 6.36 percent in 2009.

Antonio Sosa attributed this to "the actions carried out by part of this group of government in the field of waste management and public awareness".

There also seems to be an improvement in waste management by individuals following the development of awareness campaigns, both among schoolchildren as between citizens and businesses.
