News in Brief

K9 Tenerife & Friends of the Animals News
Car Boot Sales
K9 sales are held on the first Sunday of each month at Happy Days Bowls & Tennis Club, Garanana, Costa del Silencio, from 8am until midday. Stalls are six euros each. For more details, phone Pat the Cat on 608 121 081.
There is also a K9 sale on the second Saturday of each month outside Shimmers Bar in Callao Salvaje, from 10.30am-1pm. Call Pat the Cat for further details.
Friends of the Animals Sales are held on the last Sunday of each month at the Sports Centre, Los Gigantes, from 9am until midday. Info from Pat the Cat.
K9 and Friends of the Animals have stalls at Playa San Juan and Alcala Markets each Wednesday and Sunday from 9am until 2pm.
K9 now have a ‘Good as New’ stall at the Adeje Sunday evening market, which is open from 4pm to 8pm and is situated 100 metres from the Mercadona.
In addition to these outlets, K9 also have a computer expert, two skilled seamstresses, a TV engineer and two experienced dog-walkers/sitters, who offer special prices to other K9 supporters for any work undertaken.
To cover all our events, more clothes, bric-a-brac, furniture, videos, CDs and other items are needed desperately to keep up our good work, especially at the markets.
Donations can be brought to the markets, or taken direct to the kennels (9am-2pm). If these arrangements aren’t suitable, call Pat the Cat on 608 121 081, or Kenny on 627 096 518.
We are anxious to get more helpers for dog-walking at the kennels, and also help to look after cats (especially on Sundays).
Volunteers are needed for box collections and help at our various events and sales. K9 and Friends of the Animals both need volunteers to help with cat-trapping. Contact the kennels if interested, from 9am-5pm (Monday to Friday) on 667 638 468.
We are really feeling the effects of the credit crunch because more and more cats and dogs need homes with K9.
All cat and dog lovers, please think carefully before taking on a pet. These animals need up-to-date injections six months prior to leaving the Island – and the cost of taking them back to the UK is astronomical.
If our kennels are full, please contact your local police (Tel 112) as a last resort.
Forthcoming events
There is a Gala Charity Evening in support of K9 & FOTA on Tuesday, 17th November, at Starlights Bar, Coral Mar Square, in Silencio. It’s an 8pm start, but arrive early. Admission on door is five euros, which includes buffet, and there are the usual raffles, tombola, book & video stall.
Stars appearing include Mike Edwards, Cy Benson, Katy Kennedy, Christine Kaye, Jesse Garon, Aidy Evans, Stan Fraser, John Ashford and Rose Eden. Call 667 507 270 for more information, or to reserve a seat.
The annual K9 Dinner/Fundraiser at Fortelaza Del Mar, Puerto Colon. PDLA, takes place on
Friday, 11th December. Admission, by ticket only, is 15 euros and they are available from the Kennels or on 619 678 384.
The all-star line-up includes Billy Porter and Jesse Garon from 8.30pm. Meet at 7pm for 7.30pm. We’ll have the usual K9 Tombola, auction, raffles, plus ‘Stand up Sit down Bingo’.
Donations of dog food or treats are gratefully accepted at all K9 functions.
Members Notice
The K9 Annual General Meeting will be held next Tuesday (10th Nov) at Starlights Bar, Silencio, at 5.30pm. All members are invited to attend.
Thanks for your support
The K9 Officers and Committee are grateful for the continued support for our abandoned animals from the general public in these difficult, financial times. If any bar or individual would like to arrange an event to raise much-needed funds, please contact any of the phone numbers below. It will be much appreciated.
Opening times
The Kennels and Cattery are open EVERY day from 10.30am-1.30pm. Cleaning, feeding, walking and exercising start from 8.45am.
If you are coming to walk the dogs, please remember to wear sensible footwear and a hat, bring a drink and enjoy the experience. Respect the advice given about each dog.
Where to find us
People often ring to ask “Where are your kennels?”  They are at Las Chafiras, on the San Miguel side of the motorway. Follow the San Miguel road for 400 metres, past the First Impressions building on your right-hand side. After a further 300 metres, you will see a road off to the right. Go down this road for approximately one mile. The kennels are on the right on a bend, and there’s car parking opposite the entrance.

 Live Arico

Farewell to Nicole

We would like to thank Nicole – and bid her a fond farewell. She has been a committee member for some time, and has also worked hard towards making the Live Arico shop a success. You will be missed Nicole – thank you so much for everything you have done.

Whale-watching with Live Arico
The next trip out on Eden Charter Sailing will be on Friday, 20th November, at 3.30pm (not Saturday, as stated last week). The AWF will be on board with research guides, and all we ask is a minimum 15-euro donation per person. This will be on a first-come, first-served basis, so please call Karen on the number below to organise your place.
Live Arico 2010 calendars
OUR calendars will be ready next week, so don’t miss out! We are holding the launch party and benefit night at Bar 39, Los Cristianos, on Saturday, 14th November, from 8pm.
There will be lots of cabaret guests, a raffle, and, of course, you can be among the first to own one of our fantastic calendars – the ideal Christmas gift – for only eight euros. There’s a choice of Hot Hunks or Luscious Ladies, all pictured with our four-legged friends, of course.
Please don't buy your calendar for next year without taking a look at our versions first – they are first class.

Upcoming events
We are holding a Walk on Water fun day on Saturday, 21st November, followed by a benefit night at the Olympus pool bar, Garden City, San Eugenio.
Pop yourself into a huge plastic ball and run across the pool. Starting at 3pm by the pool, we have water balls, face-painting, fun and games.
There will be a junior disco from 6-7pm, followed by the benefit night itself, with free chilli, and entertainment from Suzy Q, Charlie Karlsen and the Rod Stewart show.
Tickets are available in advance at five euros (six on the day), from the bar itself or from Lorna (627 686 830) or Ann (650 723 853).
Our Nearly New Shop
We are situated in Coral Mar Square, Costa del Silencio, above Netto supermarket. Come along and bag your bargain. Since the weather is beginning to change towards winter (at night, anyway), the shop is now bringing all its stocks of woollies out of the storeroom. We have huge selection of jumpers and cardigans for all sizes and tastes.

Opening times
NEW opening times for the shop, from Monday, 9th November, are: Monday-Friday 10am-3pm, Saturday: 10am-2pm. Sunday: closed.
You are so important
If you can help us in ANY way, please call Dominique or Regina on the numbers below. We are
grateful to receive any donations of cat and dog food at the shop.
