Helping Hands make it - 30.10.2009
HELPING Hands in Tenerife, a registered charity based in the South, was set up last year by three friends – Liz Montague, Dot Gardner and Julie Lincoln.

The charity, through its social and sponsored events, have raised over 7,000 euros  over the last 12 months and  plans to organise more events in the very near future.
That will enable people with common interests to enjoy each other’s company, make friends and, of course, raise funds for the less fortunate on the Island.
Donations to the needy as a result of fund-raising include over 5,000 euros to the Martha Dos Centre in La Laguna – supporting children who suffer from Cerebral Palsy. And 2,000 euros went to the Cancer Care Unit in Candelaria.

Last Saturday (17th Oct), a sum of 4,000 euros was presented to Ms Dolores Carrillo Exposito, a representative of the Martha Dos Centre.

Liz,said: “This could not have been achieved without the support of the charity’s members – and may I say, along with all concerned with the charity, many thanks.”
She added: “The Martha Dos Centre were extremely grateful to receive the latest donation and believe me, this was very much needed to maintain comfort levels for the children in the Centre; it has come at a critical time.”
In the past few months, the centre were able to buy necessities such as a washing machine, oven, bedding and even fun days out at the circus for the children.
The latest donation will go towards a fire escape, which is desperately needed at the home to provide protection to the children in case of fire.
The ongoing “necessities” list is endless, and it is only when you see the children with your own eyes and the home where they are permanently resident, that you understand how important it is to help them.
With the money raised by the Helping Hands charity, it makes the children’s lives a little more bearable, and allows the loving staff at Martha Dos to perform their demanding jobs a little easier.

In addition to the above, Helping Hands also supports the Hospice here on the Island, and anyone who is in need!
The charity is constantly growing and warmly welcomes all who wish to be part of this friendly group of people.
Please help the group to raise more for the needy by supporting their charity events. You can contact Liz at  liz.montague@yahoo.co.uk and she will send you information about future events.
