Britannia students enjoy lesson around the world – in one day! WHO says it takes 80 days to go around the world? On 20th October, the students of Britannia School took part in a 24-hour relay lesson, which took them right around the globe in their normal school day. They chatted online to other schoolchildren as far away as New Zealand and Malaysia in the morning, and by the afternoon they had circumvented the planet and were talking to fellow students in such countries as Peru, Argentina and Mexico. The event formed part of the Cambridge exam board’s International Global Perspectives Day, which is a new IGCSE qualification, and Britannia School helped to pilot this syllabus during the last academic year. This study course responds to a growing need for students to understand the multi-cultural and mobile world in which they live. It promotes an international outlook and cross-cultural awareness, which are the tools students need in a global marketplace. As a result of this, the Global Perspectives Day was a celebration of 80 schools from more than 30 countries around the world, including classes from the UK, the US, New Zealand, Peru, Indonesia, India, Malaysia, Canada, Spain, Norway, France, Jordan, China, Cambodia, Egypt, Pakistan, Brazil, Argentina, Italy and the UAE. The students had huge fun talking to their peers around the world, finding out about their lives, their schools and their cultures. Proud Britannia are now preparing a presentation, which will enable students and parents to view soon at www.britanniaschoolonline.com
