News in Brief Harry is the top Scallywagg! THE Scallywaggs Golf Society play at the Adeje C course every Sunday, except every second Sunday when they attend the Fun Golf competition at Los Palos. After last Sunday’s game, the Scallywaggs enjoyed their end-of-year lunch and trophy presentation at Westhaven Bay, Costa Del Silencio. A total of 20 players and friends enjoyed the BBQ lunch, thanks to all the staff, who laid on a fine afternoon. Results: 1 Harry Fleming, 2 Keith Simpson (Lofty), 3 Frank Moss. San Miguel Lions take to golf course SAN Miguel de Abona Lions Club are staging a golf tournament at the Adeje course on Sunday (25^th Oct). The cost of the individual stableford,18-hole event is only 35 euros, which includes a buggy. For further details, phone Ralph on 685 542 128, or Keith on 649 739 098. The San Miguel lions also hold an auction at the Pig in the Dip bar, Costs del Silencio, on the first Friday of every month, from 7.30pm. Lions plan second charity shop THE Lions Tenerife Sur Club are to open their second charity shop, on the first floor of the Apolo Centre in Los Cristianos. Their first shop, in Las Gaviotas, near Coral Mar Square in Costa del Silencio, was the first charity venture to open in Tenerife and has been successfully operating for nine years. Lion Ken Sadler said: “It’s time for us to branch out and, as Los Cristianos is a major tourist and residential area, we feel another shop there could emulate our success at Silencio. “This will enable us to continue our work in the local communities, and our well-publicised children’s holiday programme, which has been running annually for many years to give handicapped, under-privileged and terminally-ill children the holiday of a lifetime.” The shop should open by the end of November, and in the meantime, the Lions need donations of clothing, books, CDs, DVDs, toys, games, bric-a-brac and any saleable items which are no longer needed. Willy’s benefit show raises the roof! The Benefit Night for Willy, who died last month at the age of 45, raised a fabulous 4,635 euros for his family. The event was held in Coral Mar Square, Costa del Silencio, where Willy once ran the El Patio De Coral restaurant, and he was fondly remembered by the huge crowd who turned up to say farewell to a popular guy. His partner, Becky, and their two young children, would like to say a huge thank you to everyone involved in making the night a success. The organisers also say thanks to all the artistes, who gave their talent and time, to Jimmy for keeping the proceedings running smoothly, to Gerry for running the auction, and to all the bars and businesses for their support. Finally, they thank Laila, from the Community, The Lions and Club Marina for their generous donations. Star-spangled K9 charity night A HOST of Tenerife stars will be appearing at a gala charity evening on 17^th November, organised by K9 Animal Refuge and Friends of the animals. Starlights Show Bar, at Coral Mar Square, Costa del Silencio, will be hosting the event, and the five-euro entrance ticket comes with a buffet. Entertainers include Mike Edwards, Cy Benson, Jesse Garon, Ian Anderson and Aidy Evans, and there’s a raffle and tombola, plus a video book stall. The evening starts at 8pm, so arrive early. You can even reserve a seat in advance by calling 677 507 270. Entrance tickets will go into a draw at the end of the evening, and all proceeds from the night will go to K9/FOTA.
