SPANIARDS are throwing themselves whole-heartedly behind Madrid’s bid to host the 2016 Olympics, according to a new opinion poll.
Madrid is competing with three other cities, along with Chicago, Tokyo and Rio de Janeiroto stage the Games, and the International Olympic Committee will make their decision in Copenhagen on 2nd October. The poll, taken a month ago and published by the Madrid 2016 organising committee last Wednesday, said almost 94% of Spaniards were in favour of the city hosting the Games – a slight increase of, two points from a poll six months earlier.
It said that threequarters of those questioned believed the city would be chosen – up 10 points from the previous poll.
Specialist Olympic newsletter ‘Around the Rings’ is confident Chicago will get the vote to host the 2016 Games, with Madrid the biggest danger. |
