
Famous Canarian painter and social collectives are taking part in 20 Orca sculptures which will be displayed on the island.
The Loro Parque Foundation has started the project Expo Orcas 2008 about sensitisation of whales. 10 famous Canarian painters and 8 social collectives of the island have entered this project. Altogether they will be participating in creating 20 sculptures with different designs, materials and technical aesthetics. After them the sculptures in full length will be displayed in different cities of the Canary Islands. This Exhibition aims to draw attention to the sensitisation of the Canarian association in reference to protection of the whales. Therefore combining the environment, tourism, culture and participation of the public. The artists include special names like Facundo Fierro, Carmen Cólogan, José Luis Fajardo, Gonzalo Gonzaléz, Emilio Machado, Elena Lecuona, Pedro González and Ildefonso Aguilar amongst others. In a public auction, organized by the Loro Parque Foundation, the sale of these creations will take place. The proceeds of the above mentioned auction will go towards a project about conservation of whales. This project belongs to the initiative Micronesia. In cooperation with the Loro Parque Foundation, the Ministry of Environment, The Convention of Migratory Specie of the United Nations, The Local Government and UNESCO, they have been assisting since 2007 in the protection of the whales. In the first step 10 of the sculptures will be processed with different plastic techniques, with the objective to present them in different exhibitions, before they will be auctioned. After that the mentioned artists will play the role of the godparents for these sculptures, which will be handed over to the social collective, so that they can start the decoration of them. The works of art will be donated to Cities and public places. Participating in the project amongst others: Sport club Marichal, Lanzarote acoge, groups of children, youth and senior, University of Laguna, too. The first artist who has started with the first orca sculpture is the painter and sculptor Facundo Fierro. |
