Some 130 children arrived last week (at approximately 03.30) to the airport Reina Sofia from the camps of Sahrawi refugees. After conducting the administrative formalities, they were transferred to I. E. S. Punta Long in Candelaria, to rest, breakfast and were then distributed among the various local committees and the regional Association, to be then handed to local families in each municipality.
These children, aged between 7 and 12 years, will stay here until the end of August or early September with their Canarian families, who provide attention and affection to ease the harsh conditions that they endure in Tindouf, where, for example, they do not have access to food needed for their growth and also a lack of basic services. During their stay, the families, in addition to love and attention, provide medical reviews and treatment in if necessary as well as food more complete than they receive in Tindouf and that basically consists of the international aid but fruit, vegetables and fresh fish are luxuries unattainable. Children on these holidays in the Islands are distributed between 6 families in El Hierro, 18 in La Palma and the remainder in Tenerife. |
