Success at Loro Parque - 03.08.2007
Since a ban was placed on the importation of birds that have been captured in the wild, many breeders have doubled their efforts on increasing the numbers of rare species under their care to ensure their survival and that way maintain the widest genetic reserve possible. This is particularly true for many species of “loris” which may otherwise disappear from zoos and aviaries.

The great news is that in Loro Parque the breeding season is experiencing a “baby boom” with over 500 babies already.

Some of the most notable success stories include the two little Cardinal Lories (Chalcopsitta cardinalis), two Yellow-streaked Lories (Chalcopsitta scintillata), two Johnstone’s Lories (Trichoglossus johnstoniae), two Red-collared Lorikeets (Trichoglossus haematodus rubritorquis) as well as two Emerald Lorikeets (Neopsittacus pullicauda).
