
This year’s edition of “Eolica” One of the most original festivals to be held in the islands promises to be even more successful than last year’s event.
Offering more than 20 hours of live music featuring some of the best bands around, together with a long list of recycling workshops, cinema, conferences and debates, guided tours and an excellent atmosphere the organisers of Eolica are expecting more than 80,000 visitors this year. The event, which was the first of its kind to be held in Spain is based on the ecological philosophy aiming to increase awareness of the importance of recycling as much household waste as possible and promoting the use of renewable energies and caring for the world around us, will be held as has become the custom in the ITER installations near Granadilla on July 14th .
Over the last five years the Festival has become famous throughout Europe both for the excellent quality of live musical entertainment and for the wide range of ecological activities specially planned for the whole family. It is promoted in the principal websites of Europe and is among the 27 most popular musical events in Europe.
Visitors to Eolica will be able to view the latest film by ex vice president of the United States Al Gore “The uncomfortable truth” which handles the theme of global warming and the film “Earthling”which deals with various ecological issues. There will also be various concferences and debates throughout the day at different parts of the ITER park. EOLICA ACTIVITIES One of the big attractions of the Festival is the long list of activities avaibale for the young and the not so young to enjoy during the whole festival. The activities will be :- Solar plant pots The decoration of a recycled plantpot using solar powered girating wheels a sunflower seed will be planted Organised by the Islands Energy Agency (AIET). Eolic energy The construction of a small which will be used to verify the strength of the wind , and a windsock to find out its direction and speed. organised by the AIET. Solar powered scalextric Everyone invited to play with the innovative solar powered scalextric. Solar powered boats Construct small boats powered by solar panels and sail them in a specially constructed pool . Organised by ITER Hydrogen energy plant Observe how the experts generate hydrogen using water .Organised by ITER and AIET Solar cooking A solar powered kitchen will be set up for the production of popcorn , boiled eggs and small fairy cakes. Stencilling workshop With the latest graffiti designs led by professionl stenciuller Juan Adan Alonso Estevez. FIMO jewellery workshop The chance to make beads and hand made jewellery workshop led by Txula professional designer. “Kekas”Rag doll making Workshop using recycled materials to make rag dolls led by Daida Carillo and Patricia Diaz. Toy making Kites, dolls and insects made using newspaper , cork and wood :Led by Bencomia. Instruments Workshop to make musical instruments using card, plastic and metal etc.Led by Debora Brito. Balloon modelling Imaginative workshop led by Debora Brito Acrobatics for kids Workshop led by experts will help children with all kinds of basic acrobatics. Belly dancing and Samba Led by gymnast and teacher Renata Kcaramello. Pilates classes Classes led by Gabriel Fernandez Hand craft workshops Using waste materials for adults and children. EXHIBITIONS The Nomad dancing company offers “Paisajes de Vida”and “orbita” inspired on love , nature and the moon.
The Renata Kcaramello group from Brazil offer various dancing displays including belly dancing, samba, competition aerobics, Crypton dancers,and Organic puppets.The group will mingle with the crowds offering various surprises throughout the day.
Gonzalo Martin and Dj Lowen will be making sand sculptures
Ben Roberts will be giving performances of recycled music using instruments made from waste items.
Shock Tenerife Angels of Sound .Four gogo dancers will perform on pedestals of light.
Elefante Blanco will parade around the installtions offering jugglers and other circus style attractions.
A group of actors will simulate life in one of the bioclimatized dwellings of the ITER installations.
Roy 333 and Fran_awara will give demonstrations of electronic percussion music afro latin style.
Elementhal events have also organised an impressive range of artists who will be performing on four different stages guaranteeing that there is something for all tastes. Furthermore four “puntos limpios”or clean points will be set up around the park where anyone handing in ten empty paper cups or cans will be given a free beer.
The TITSA bus company will also lay on a special service to the ITER installations during the festival running from Playa de las Americas to Granadilla at 5pm and 9pm and from Granadilla to Playa de las Americas (after the all night musical concert) at 6am and 7am on the Sunday morning.
The new Montaña Roja campsite will also be opened for the occasion with space for about three hundred people.
Tickets for the event have been on sale for some time but are also available on the door at the price of 25 euros (for the after dark entertainment). A family ticket for use until 6pm will only cost 3 euros and under 12’s will be free of charge.
The activities will begin at around midday finishing at 6pm to give way to the musical entertainment which will continue until approximately 6am on Sunday morning. |
