Causco quits after another Tenerife horror show - 08.06.2007
CD Tenerife 0 Vecindario 2 by Roscoe

This was as bad as it gets. After four straight away wins Tenerife matched that with their fourth consecutive home defeat. Only this was so much worse than the previous. Even hardened fans vented their fury after a listless and limp display against their already relegated Canarian rivals.
Fans will except defeats. They will understand that sides can have an off day. What they won’t allow is a lack of fight and passion. And that’s what CDT displayed last weekend.
For the record Carrizo’s sweet first half free kick opened the scoring with Javi Morales slotting home the second just after the hour mark. But trust me it could have been at least double that. Sure Tenerife rested a few regulars and a couple were unavailable, but that is a flimsy argument.
It’s been a rollercoaster season and something had to give.
Casuco was installed as boss in December and was charged with the task of keeping Tenerife up. He did that with something to spare, and seemed to be making real progress. But he had constant rows with the Santa Cruz media and seemed to be at odds with the chairman Miguel Conception over team strengthening.
The new man is Jose Luis Oltra who has done an amazing job at Cuidad Murcia. He led them to fourth place in the second division and he seems just the sort to awaken the sleeping giant at the Heliodoro.
It will be interesting to see if he can bring his star strikers Goitom or Luque with him.
Tenerife round off their home campaign at Sunday when they host Salamanca. The game kicks off at 6pm.
