One thing Joe knows about is music, so be sure to hear some absolute gems when he's on air. Biog: Joe first got his hands on a pair of decks in 1995 and has never looked back since. After annoying his mum and dad with early Drum & Bass from labels like Dope Dragon & RAM records, Joe's practising payed off when he got his first Dj gig at an all nighter within just 6 months, "I was so excited to get my first Djing gig and especially in such a short time. I didn't realise that there was a difference between the equipment I was going to have to use in clubs and my old belt drive decks! Needless to say there is a massive difference between Technics 1210's and Soundlab belt drives and my set stunk! But I went back home got a job and saved up for some proper equipment." Armed with professional equipment and a new outlook towards Djing Joe started playing his way through every party & all nighter he could get near, until people started booking him as their regular afterparty and all night Dj. 12 hour mixing marathons taught him how to structure his music and sets properly whilst refining his mixing skills at the same time. Club and bar work followed with Joe retaining residencies at some of the best pre-parties, events and after parties around. The sound Joe plays may have slightly altered over the years starting with Drum & Bass & Hip-Hop, moving on to progressive house and trance, and more recently jackin' house & breaks but the philosophy remains the same "You can't forget the fact that people are there to have a party, so whilst a little bit of a purist attitude is essential you've still got to be prepared to subtly drop tracks that they know and love." After becoming increasingly fustrated with a stale U.K. club scene and bad weather, Joe decided to swap his umbrella for flip flops and grey skies for blue ones. Arriving in Tenerife in Feb 2004 with only his girlfriend and a bag of records he began working on his tan and way back up the dj ladder! Seven months later Joe and Geoff went live with their first Recycled Soul show on Oasis FM. Neither of them had ever been on the radio before and if it hadn't been for the minty fresh music they had ready, the first Recycled Soul could have well turned out like Joe's first Dj gig! Another seven months later and Joe was handed the Evening Session baton and currently resides every night from 8-11 Monday to Friday. "I've always said my vocation in life is to play music but never expected that I'd fall into radio especially not to work for a station as big as Oasis Fm and with Recycled Soul quickly becoming an integral part of the dance music scene in the Canaries, gaining listeners from all corners of the globe, and the evening shift on Oasis Fm where I get to play a little bit of everything I couldn't be happier." |
