2012 PRESENTATION NIGHT PHOTOS>>
Well, what a night that was!! Yes, the Oasis FM darts league presentation at Showtime, which included some fine cuisine, great entertainment, a record attendance and a puppy!
And to top it off, the highest number of trophies that the league has ever awarded, all washed down with a few scoops. Only a few, honestly.
Whilst we were being handsomely fed and watered, Jamie Jamie Drew (so good they named him twice) soothed the large audience with his excellent repertoire.
Time then for some darting action on the big stage and the Memorial Trophy finals. And an appreciative crowd saw a new name go onto the cup as Julie of Naughty Nautas came from one leg down to beat Sarah from the Bad Girls.
Onto the Division 2 trophy and 2 young men that have lit up their league this season. Sundowners Tom, and Nathan of Ourplace naturals produced a scintillating match that had everyone on the edge of their seats. At 2 all it really was up for grabs, but Nathan fired in an impressive last leg to take the win. These boys are the future!
The Division 1 event paired Daniel of Xtreme Sports with Luc from Cafe Rood. And we were treated to yet more fine marksmanship, although sadly for the younger man, Luc grabbed the silverware with a 3-1 victory.
Finally, a steady procession of winners and runners up made their way to the stage to collect gongs and cups. Some of them managed to walk in a straight line! The total amount raised for charity by the Memorial Trophy and the raffle on the night was close to 1500 euros. A huge thank you to everyone for that.
Lastly, the league would like to thank the retiring Chairman Roscoe for his hard work and patience in difficult times over the past 4 years.
The 2012/13 season is set to kick off on Friday 18th May. See you there!
The Power is a Natural
The Oasis Fm darts league prides itself on being an open league which welcomes players from all age ranges and of all abilities. Division 2 side Ourplace Naturals were able demonstrate this to good effect on Friday night as they welcomed none less than 15 times world champion Phil Taylor into their ranks. And Phils natural ability helped the home team overcome Rood B by 7 points to 1.
Bullseye! Marathon men hit world record.
Good luck messages from on-line viewers poured in from all over the globe at the weekend as two local darts players broke the official world record for a continuous game of singles.
Oasis Fm League darters Mark, from Exiles, and Andy, from the Knights, played non-stop for 27hrs 42mins to register their names in the Guinness Book of Records.
They even received support from the US and Australia as they threw over 14,271 darts and scored over 210,771 points during the course of their marathon 233 games.
2011/12 Season
Division 1: XTREME SPORTS BAR
Xtreme Sports Bar are league champions for the second year running! Their final league match win over Cozy Wanderers was enough to snatch the title from Bar 180 A by just 2 points. For their part, Bar 180 A dished out a real hammering to Gaffers and whitewashed them. A John Lowe final hangover, perhaps? Phoenix Bars 6-2 victory at Tavern included a maximum from Steve Jones and ensured them the 3rd place pot and means that the top 3 in the division is exactly the same as last season. The Pub rounded off a decent campaign with a 6-2 success at bar 180 B, while the Target Bars Mark hit a 180 in a home venue derby against the Titans. The Tornados and the X-men finished their fixtures with home wins, although they both had to win the trebles leg to do so.
Division 2: SUNDOWNERS
Sundowners are Division 2 champions! A storming season saw them win 30 of their 33 matches and finish just 3 points above Ourplace Naturals. The Naturals maybe should have won the league, as their "goal" difference seems to indicate. Scruffy Macs enjoyed the promotion party by beating Naughty Nautas and Palms Sports Bar look a good side for next season after they thumped marilyns 8-0. Cafe Rood B and Bad Girls/Boys had a fun night and shared the points, while Phoenix Flames lost every single leg at home to Summerland Hopefuls.
