Biog: Darren Clynes Darren started his love for DJ'ing and music whilst still at school, with a little help from his dad and a roof-rack he set up a mobile disco in his home town of Leeds. He went on to work in Nightclubs and radio before becoming a solo vocalist and later working the holiday sites of the UK in a band.....taking time out to study performing arts. Darren then went on to have his own touring 70's themed production and management agency. After the cold getting just too much Darren moved to Tenerife in 2003 and works the cabaret circuit most nights as himself and his zany 70's character Tony Loveshaft. See Darren as one of the Boys of Summer 2007 here>> Biog: Dave Michaels Working in an Iranian prune factory, a very brief modelling career (no there aren’t any on the internet), becoming a fish n chip shop owner and a mortgage advisor....to name but a few previous occupations, you would be right in thinking that this is not the most direct route to radio broadcasting. After playing records at his mums 40th birthday party, playing keyboards, at his dads, and a very shaky beginning drumming for a heavy metal band that shall remain nameless, Dave became a DJ accidentally, following a chance meeting with Children’s TV presenter Mark Granger. After an extended exchange of heckles, Mark told him that he was either a professional comedian or a DJ! Errr - no! Dave was actually in advertising and promotions. 9 months later, armed with a box of borrowed records and some very dubious hired turntables…..Dave joined the biz officially. Dave Michaels, Wedding DJ. 5 years on: he lived and worked in Corfu, (opening a nightclub and playing for the Prime Minister of Greece), Mallorca, Magaluf (a must), Ibiza, San Antonio (a vague, blurry memory). 10 years on: he has wrestled rubber sharks on stage, dressed as an Australian, and run dj classes, training presenters and dj’s, to do what he still sees as a passion, rather than a profession. 15 years on: he joined a ‘touring Disco stage show’ as Johnny Diamond (Red satin jump suit and platforms, don’t ask!). He travelled the country on a weekly basis working with a very talented bunch of crazy folk, including dancers, comedians, actors, celebrities and other performers, one of which was guess who - Darren Clynes who went on to become one of his closest friends and best man at his wedding! At some point during all this time, he has managed a band, bought and ran 2 girl bands, and ended up in a boy band himself. Released a single, appeared in national press, radio and on TV….. AND has been a Pirate, here in Tenerife……..all of which are stories that would take up far too much of your valuable time. PRESENT DAY: Dave now lives and works in Tenerife, presenting shows on Oasis Fm with Darren, and as a compere and entertainer in various venues, singing for his supper. This is not Daves first time in radio, that privilege belongs to Wakefield hospital radio, where sometimes as an entertainer, you die on stage, well quite a substantial portion of the audience actually did! After a stint on Power Fm, Dave Darren Clynes on the weekend breakfast show and said ‘I’m now working for what I truly believe is the best radio station in the Canaries, with some of the most talented, tireless, and dedicated insomniacs.’ Dave believes ‘If you can dream it, you can live it, so live the dream!’…….a bit like the book, not quite there yet, but getting closer every day!
