Maggie Lennard

On the show....
Excellent music, informative features, and quirkie news stories, just the thing to help your afternoon pass quickly with Tenerife's no.1 female presenter. Maggies broadcasting style is quick and witty, but with the programme schedule as it is, she refrains from talking too much (contrary to popular belief, her “words per show” count is lower than others, who will remain nameless!), music being the main focus of her shows.

Biog:
Maggie was born in Solihull in the West Midlands. She was a British Rhythmic Gymnastics Champion aged 15 and went on to gain a B.A. with Qualified Teacher Status from the University of Warwick, where she was also honoured to have been the first female Students’ Union House Manager at any UK university.
Optimistically applying for overseas jobs, she landed her first teaching post at Wingate School in south Tenerife in 1988, where she was responsible for the education of the reception infants.
Two years into her teaching career and she met musician Ian Lennard, and they married in St. Lucia in 1992.
After realising she had the gift of the gab (much to her absolute astonishment), Maggie left teaching in 1994 to pursue a career in entertainment, including a stint as a male impersonator alongside the inimitable Crystal Starr at what was the Wigan Pier in Playa de las Americas. The transition into radio was incidental – Maggie became the island’s first main line female presenter, hosting a weekend lunchtime show.
In her spare time, Maggie also fell into another great job – presenting international boxing events held on the island, where she completed another first – the World’s first televised female M.C. A few appearances on Eurosport and Digital Plus (Spain’s equivalent of Sky Sports) ensured she was seen at one point by 12 million viewers, doing the “Let’s get ready to rumble” speeches in both English and Spanish. In 1997 she introduced a young Jean-Marc Mormeck (former WBC and WBA unified world Cruiserweight champion) into the ring in Los Cristianos.
Maggie left Oasis FM in June 2005 due to ill health and upon recovery, went to work in telecommunications.
It took six and a half years for Maggie to claw her way back on air, and you can tell how delighted she is to be ‘home’ by listening to her show.
