The great Iceland Trolley dash provided the perfect wedding present for Avril Capper. A few weeks earlier, she was Ms Avril Taylor, listening in to Oasis Fm and hoping to win the grand prize at Iceland’s Las Chafiras store.
After her marriage to Kevin Capper, of local building company CCS, she felt that winning the 90-second trolley dash would complete a fantastic month for her. And so it proved.
It wasn’t all plain sailing for Avril, though. She knew she had to tune into Joe Ferguson’s special, three-hour, Oasis Fm Saturday show from Iceland to hear the result. But she was listening on-line on her balcony when the battery died on her PC before Joe announced the winner.
However she managed to resolve the problem and listen just as her name was being read out. She planned her route through the shop carefully, aiming to gather as much meat, cheese, coffee and toiletries as possible in the given time – 90 seconds.

“I was dead excited,” said, a breathless Avril, who dashed to the store and managed to amass items worth 340.78 euros.
Iceland closed the store for a few minutes while the event took place. And shoppers still inside at the time were treated to wine and tit-bits laid on by staff as Avril geared up for her grand grab.

She had to obey certain rules – no alcohol and no duplicates – and in all the excitement, she managed to collect two jars of the same brand of coffee and two packets of minced beef. Oh yes, and one Pot Noodle!
DJ Joe, who had promoted the event for several weeks via his weekly Oasis Fm show, said: “It was a fabulous afternoon and great fun.
“Avril was a good sport and we all had a great laugh. The staff and management of Iceland were brilliant throughout and made it a day to remember for all of us.”

Avril had 90 seconds to dash round Iceland and grab what she could with only the following stipulations:

1) Only one trolley to be used
2) No alcohol or cigarettes allowed
3) No books or magazines allowed
4) Only one of each item should be put into trolley
5) No tills allowed!!
