Results from 29.08.2008:
There were a couple of upsets in the second round of the John Lowe Trophy
last week. The biggest of which was in Los Abrigos where Beer Engine produced
their best to see off their Division One hosts Amigos Bar 4-3. It was
a big turn around in form for the Los Cristianos mob who have had a few
sticky weeks. They were not the only giantkillers.
Nauta Bar eased past Target Bar B 5-2 to maintain
their good recent run and guarantee a Second Division side in the semi
finals as they will now face Beer Engine. Trap Door are the only other
Second Division survivors. They pipped Mally Boo B in a tight affair.
Leading 3-2 from the singles they wrapped up both doubles rubbers to book
a last eight meeting with Swigs Bar who beat Toscales Tornados 4-3. Div
Two leaders Tenerife Sons were given a taster of what it will be like
in the top flight next season as they crashed 5-2 at Target Bar A.
Holders Mally Boo A showed their fighting spirit as they beat Yelas Bar
5-2 despite being two legs down and playing with just three players and
a holiday maker from the bar! On a personal note I would like to give
them all the credit in the world. They could have cancelled the game but
decided to play as a mark of respect to their opponents. I hope some of
the others team will take note.
Their reward is a last eight clash with Phoenix Bar who edged past Mr
Booze 4-3 despite Jack Dom being a “little” intoxicated.
The John Lowe Plate is for the losers from the first round of the Trophy
and the favourites must be Division One leaders Exiles who whitewashed
Pig In The Dip. They will face the Phoenix Flames girls who were not thrashed
last week! They might have been trashed at the bar mind.
There is not much between The Hideaway and The Barracudas in the league
and they had another watertight battle in the Plate. This time Hideaway
sneaked matters and they will fancy their chances of progressing against
a Booze Brothers side they beat 5-3 a fortnight ago. Paddy O’Taffy’s
are also in the last eight after getting the better of the lovely Our
Place Playgirls and they play Bar Selecta in a few weeks after Selecta
snuck past the Amigos Bad Girls.
Spanish Knights returned to winning ways beating Tenerife Sun 4-3 in
an all Division One affair and they will be confident of reaching the
final as they will not face a top flight side until then.
