2008/9 Singles Competition

Singles Competition – Friday 6th June 2008
Friday 6th June 2008 saw the Oasis FM darts singles night take place at 5 venues, the Pig in the Dip & El Sol in Silencio, Alex’s Bar in Las Americas, The Trap Door Los Cristianos & the ladies singles in Amigos Bar in Los Abrigos.
The night was extremely successful with nearly 100 players taking part over the 5 venues.

For the first time in this competition we introduced a Ladies singles competition. This has been named after a sadly missed member from the darts league, Sabrina Seal who tragically passed away last year. Can you imagine a pub full of ladies, drinking, playing darts & egging each other on!!! It’s safe to say Paul the owner of Amigos bar must have thought his luck was in at the beginning of the night only to go home with a slightly sore head! Well done ladies for making this new singles competition a success & Judith (Mally Boos) & Brenda (Play Girls) will meet in the final at the end of this season. Congratulations girls!

Bar El Sol had a lot of our usual darts characters playing there & a lot of action took place! Amidst the many 180’s Fluffy from Mr Booze managed to shine & bring that Mr Joe Ferguson back to earth after his Entertainment award win. Sorry Joe stick to your day job!!
Another entertaining night took place & 2 of the leagues best players (allegedly!) got through to the final at El Sol. Calum took on Luc & having both got 180’s during the evening & on fine form played an extremely tense & exciting game. Luc just managed to pip Calum to the post & won 3-2 to take his place in the final at the end of the season. Congratulations Luc!

The Trap Door is new to the league this season & had their first taste of a competition night. This venue had another 2 of the leagues greatest players (again allegedly!), Mally (Mally Boos) & Richard (Swigs) who fought it out last season in the Jurgen Trophy Final. Unfortunately although Richard achieved one of the many 180’s it was no competition for the on form Bubbles (Exiles) who managed to get 3 180’s & knocked Richard out in the first round. Two new members to the darts league played at this venue & although poor Mike (Trap Door) faced Mally in the first round it gave him a taster of things to come. Chris (Hideaway) was the other new face & managed to get through to the semi final unfortunately also to get knocked out by Mally. Well done though Chris & better luck next season! Although bubbles had been on fine form & put up a great fight in the Final, Mally was determined as ever & has made it to the finals night by beating bubbles 3-2.

Another new venue this season is Alex’s Bar which has bravely allowed the Mally Boo teams to play there. Another extremely exciting night took place & saw Harry (mr booze) reach his first ever final & achieve the only 180 at this venue. Harry also finally got his revenge on Daniel (mally boos) who has knocked him out many times in the past & beat him in the semi-final. Harry was gutted to get beaten by Paul (phoenix) in the final, so he drowned his sorrows with a few more vodkas (any excuse!!). A well deserved place in the finals night for Paul in his first ever singles tournament has got to be applauded though, congratulations Paul! Paul even beat one of the venues favourites, DelBoy (Exiles) in the semi final after Delboy had knocked out last years Jurgen Trophy semi finalist Steve (Pheonix).

Saving the biggest surprise of the evening to last was the exciting singles competition that took place at the Pig in the Dip. Johnny (owner of the Pig In the Dip) got through the first round by knocking out one of his own team mates Charlie. However Johnny was knocked out in the next round by the on form Shanny (Booze Bros), who decided against the ladies tournament to show the men just whose boss in this league! It was a successful night for the Booze Bros at this venue as Tomas fought his way past John (X-Men), Martin (Swigs) & Hugh (X-Men) to win his place in the final. Out of all the people at this venue Tomas would not like to meet in the final, Sonic (Exiles) would be the one. Sonic having knocked out Shanny in the semi final would have been clear favourite to be the winner at this venue. Tomas was not gonna let his nerves get the better of him & really didn’t by thrashing (sorry sonic but it’s true) Sonic 3-0 in the final. A big congratulations to Tomas, I’m sure you will have your team behind you cheering you on at the finals night!

To summarise without trying to repeat myself to much, what a fantastic Exiles Singles Competition & ‘Sew Good’ Ladies Singles Competition the event was. Well done to everyone who took part, no matter how far you got it’s the taking part that counts!!! Honestly!!
Normal service resumes this Friday with game no 4 of the league taking part.
