This Oasis Fm League Cup is the first trophy of the season
played amongst teams only in their respective Divisions.
The rounds took place according to the draws, and the division 1 final
live at the Bierkeller for Oasis Fm's 10th Birthday on the 3rd of August.
FULL REPORT.........
The day before the event, live on Roscoe´s breakfast show, Exiles
player Chairman Jonny, AKA the Pink Panther, and Mally Boo´s captain
Mally, were invited to chat about the up coming match on the air waves.
With the Pink Panther in situ in the studio, Roscoe called Mally on his
mobile but only got his answer phone. The Pink Panther saw his chance
and with his tongue in his cheek, and knowing Mally may be listening,
he upped the anti and suggested that Mally Boo´s had already bottled
it and that their nerve had gone. The banter was all in jest. However,
a short while later Mally called Roscoe and expedited his right to reply.
The outcome, a 100 euro wager by Mally to The Pink Panther on the evenings
result. The Panther duly accepted. Game on!!
On arrival at the venue, the Exiles team was shocked at the numbers already
there, it was packed with hundreds of party go-ers all in the party spirit.
The Mally Boo´s team were already on stage, under the lights, practicing.
The excitement started building, the venue looked superb, the stage was
superbly set out and the nerves started tingling. Both teams had met twice
already this season with one win a piece. The stage was set for a cracking
game of darts.
Roscoe took to the stage and to a rapturous round of applause and screaming
supporters, announced the teams. To save time, the format was the first
team to obtain 4 wins out of a potential 7 matches, best of 3 legs, 501
straight in double out.
First up, to the walk on music of Pump It by the Black Eyed Peas, for
Exiles was Bubbles. For Mally Boo´s it was Ian who walked onto I’ve
Got The Power. Bubbles threw first and opened up with a 140. His form
continued through the first leg and he comfortably beat his opponent.
The second leg was an awesome game of darts. Ian settled and found the
target, banging in big scores. Bubbles however stuck with him, smashing
home 4 consecutive tons. With both players eying a double to finish on
their next throw, it was Bubbles who managed to hit his first. 1 nil to
Exiles.
Next up for Mally Boo´s was their rising star, Daniel, for Exiles
the experienced Del Boy. In the first leg both players found it hard to
get into the groove. Del Boy opened up with a “Bristow” (a
score of 3). In a scrappy leg, it was Del Boy who managed to pip Daniel
to the win. The second leg was a different story. Daniel started to “hit
the lipstick” and opened up a comfortable lead. Del Boy plugged
away and was unusually having trouble settling. The leg, deservingly went
to Daniel. The final leg was the most tense and close leg of the night.
Del Boys form returned as he banged in a 123 and a 125. Daniel looked
like he had gone and he was trailing by quite a score before he replied
with a couple of tons. Game on. Del Boy was firing at a double first,
but on the night he was having trouble hitting them. The outcome, Del
Boy was firing at double 1 and Daniel at double 16 then double 8. The
audience watched on biting their nails, the noise levels were raised and
the atmosphere was electric as both players missed at least 12 darts to
win the match. Finally it was a relieved Del Boy who put his arrow in
the “mad house” bed to win. 2 nil to Exiles.
Next up, to Roscoes introduction “For the Exiles Bar we have the
man, although I use that term lightly, Its Sonic The Beer Man”.
Sonics opponent was John Edgar. Sonic had never beaten a Mally Boo´s
player in a league singles match before and his nerves, combined with
his excitement of playing on the big stage showed. John however is the
opposite. He is always calmness personified, a true gent of our fantastic
league. Both players, once again struggled to show the form they are capable
of and it was Sonic who opened up a 1 nil lead. Both players upped their
game in the next leg and were hitting scores of 85 plus. On a night where
it just was not happening for Mally Boo´s, it was Sonic who hit
his double first and give Exiles a lead of 3 games to nil.
With Exiles requiring just one more match to win the trophy, the next
match pitched together, in my opinion, the 2 greatest players in the league.
Exiles Calum and Mally Boo´s Graham. What ever the out come of this
match, we all knew it would be over quickly due to the talent of both
players. Calum raced out in front with scores of 100 and 180. Graham was
not throwing his customary high scores. Calum found himself on a finish
of 141. He threw treble 20, treble 19 and his third dart just missed the
double 12. He was on fire. He duly hit his double at his next visit to
the oche. The next leg was pure exhibition stuff. Calum struggled with
his first couple of throws hitting 45 and 26. Up steps Graham with throws
of 100 and 180. Calum followed this with a 140. Both players were now
on top form, they were both scoring big. With Graham ahead in the leg,
Calum required 161 to finish. He stepped up and threw, treble 20, treble
17 and required the bulls eye for a 161 checkout. He took aim, threw,
and hit the board just under the triple 5. Was this due to the excitement
or did his darts slip?. He claims he just got carried away!. Graham stepped
up and was throwing for the leg. Unfortunately he could not find his double.
Calum secured a 2 nil victory on his next visit to the board. Take nothing
away from Graham in this match. He played superbly and, in my opinion,
no other player in the league would have beaten him that night.
The Exiles Team had secured the first trophy of the season and the celebrations
started, however there was still one unexpected game to go. The Pink Panther
and Mally had not yet played. It was the luck of the draw. Roscoe called
the players to the stage. All night, Exiles walk on music had been Pump
It by the Black Eyed Peas. However Jonny walked on to the Pink Panther
theme........Thanks boys!!!. Mally came onto I've Got The Power. Even
though the match was won, both players were determined to win, its a mans
pride thing!. The Panther had never beaten Mally before, it was game on
with The Panther throwing first. The darts were not spectacular but Jonny
pulled away while Mally struggled to score big. Mally then hit a 140 but
The Panther still had 3 darts at double 16 before Mally was on a double.
Mally then hit 92 which left him on a double but The Panther hit his target
at his next visit. The second leg was closer, and to be honest I can't
remembered much about it as I had had a few vodkas (I only know what happened
in the first leg because its on you tube). I have been told it was close
and the darts were of a better standard. Mally had a throw at a double
but it was Jonny who hit his first.Roscoe handed Jonny his 100 euro winnings
and it was all over.
